Hago Harrington’s Miniature Golf Stoneham MA

The locals know it only makes sense to put the posting for Hago’s mini golf course right after the China Moon entry, as these 2 great 1950′s places share the same parking lot.

And most everyone else is probably thinking, “Who the heck is Hago Harrington?”

Thanks to Wikipedia, I can tell you:

Leland “Hago” Harrington (born August 13, 1904 in Melrose Massachusetts) is a retired American professional ice hockey forward who played 66 games in the National Hockey League for the Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins.

This mini golf course was built by Hago in 1950 and it remains the North Shore’s largest course, taking up a full acre of land on busy Route 28 in Stoneham, MA.

Hago Harrington's Course Rules

Lush and well maintained, it’s got a charming old fashioned simplicity about the obstacles and putting greens. Not too challenging for those folks who pride themselves on a low putt putt handicap, I think this place is just right for a nice night of entertainment before dining at the China Moon.

Hago Harrington's First Hole

I always thought the little white building between Hago’s and The Moon would be a great ice cream stand, and make this a perfect destination for an entire evening of old time fun, for a date or a family outing.

As I now think of it the Dairy Dome is down the street, housed in a 1922 Beacon Oil gas station, which the inspirational Debra Jane Seltzer/Agility nut has kindly photographed, along with other gas stations of this type. So you actually can have an evening of vintage retro 50′s fun without even leaving Stoneham!

  1. Beth,
if there is one place Denise and I hit at least once a year for Mini-golf it is Hago’s. The owner (for the life of me I can’t recall his name) knows us and we always talk diners, drive-ins and other roadside stuff. he is a retired firefighter and his family has owned the place since the 1960′s I believe. One time we were just leaving the Clam Box in Ipswich and some guy standing in line to order calls out to me, it was the owner of Hago’s.

Does anyone know the name of the owner of Hagos?
It’s by far the best mini golf in the area
