[CLOSED] The Hi-Way Drive In Theatre, Latrobe PA

We’re sorry to report that the Hi-Way Drive In has been closed down, and replaced with a CVS

🙁

Here’s a video from TheQman1956 on Youtube as he says goodbye to this classic roadside theater.

“From the grass lined hills of old Latrobe, we tender this premium Drive In Theatre  for your enjoyment, as a tribute to your good taste.” 😉

Hi-Way Drive In Big Sky Country

As you can tell from the wonderful weather and beautiful view, we were not at the Hi-Way at the right time of day to partake in a drive in movie, but I’d definitely recommend the Hi-Way for the story behind the ownership of it.

One of the largest drive-in movie theatres in the area (fits 700+ cars), the cinema is owned by Lee and Kathy Zimmerman. Though they have only owned it for the last few years, it is managed by Lee’s mother Marie Zimmerman, who has been managing the Hi-Way since the 1970’s. Both Lee and Kathy also have extensive history working in movie theatres, so it’s totally a family affair.

In December of  2003 the lease owner of the Hi-Way passed away and the drive in was in jeopardy of closing. Lee and Kathy created Save Our Drive In (SODI, LLC) and became the new parent company for the Hi-Way. “After three generations and over 30 years working there, we just couldn’t sit idle and let the Hi-Way close” they write. ” We look forward to having the drive in for many years to come.”

Dial Radio Sound

The Hi- Way is dedicated to having their drive in be a place for the entire family- all of their features are first run movies, and they never show anything R rated. They have nightly double features during the summer and a flea market every Sunday.

Even though going to the drive in seems like a summer affair, bundle up and head out there one cool crisp fall evening, as they’re open until October 29 for this season.
