Beth, You may have also seen my early morning (before sunrise) shot of the Olympia Diner. It was my first ever time exposure. It is on my flickr page and John Baeder even did a painting from it.

I’ve got some relatives who live not too far from there and yet I’ve never been. Shame on me…it looks great!

Gunnar – I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who had missed this place – it isn’t on our way to anyplace, but I’m glad we made the detour. Also there are a bunch of old motels in varying degrees of ill-repute, so that stretch of road is definitely worth a closer look.

Larry’s original photo was a work of art in itself, then John took it to another level. Thanks to all of you for your work and making our lives more interesting!

I am a big fan of all things retro as well and love the vintage neon sign. Went to the diner yesterday and was loving my Turnpike Burger. So delicious with sauteed onions. Loved that the jukebox was working. Only wish that the music in the jukebox was a little more vintage.

Sara – thanks for swinging by Retro Roadmap, and the Olympia Diner! We had similar “issues” with the jukebox when we were there, maybe it’s part of their charm?! We’ll have to check out the Turnpike Burger sometime soon. If you know of any other Retro Roadmap-worthy places in CT please let us know! We usually are driving quickly through the Nutmeg State in order to get to, or leave from Massachusetts, and I’m always embarrassed that we don’t have more listings on that state. Tho we do have a trip coming up in November…!
