Just a quick little bit of good news from Mod B – for the month of October I’ve been asked to contribute to PreservationNation – the blog of the National Trust for Historic Preservation– whee!
I’m literally a card carrying member of the NTHP, so I could not be more thrilled with this wonderful opportunity to share the “Retro Roadmap worthy” places we all love, with their wider preservation-minded audience.
My topic for the month is “Lunch Counters” and if all goes well I’m hoping to share more of the kinds of places we love so much on their blog in the future!
My final Lunch Counter Post:
This may sound a bit sappy, but we’re coming up on the 3 year anniversary of when my dad passed away. I’m hoping if he were here to see this he’d be proud of me. And maybe where he is now, he is smiling.

And from a historical perspective, the lunch counter at the Woolworths in Greensboro, NC was where the sit-ins started that sparked Woolworths to integrate its lunch counters. It’s preserved in place at the International Civil Rights Museum.
