[EVENT] Retro Roadmap / Roadside Fans Meet-up Scranton, PA

The first Retro Roadmap / Roadside Fans meetup is this coming Sunday November 14 in Scranton, PA! Glenn Wells of RoadsideFans.com and I are looking forward to meeting friends and fans of the great American roadside, eating in a classic diner, and have some other fun things planned too!

Sunday morning 11am we will be treated to an insiders look at the Lackawanna train station downtownwhich has been converted into a Radisson Hotel. Thanks to the folks at the …these interior photos look gorgeous!

Then from 12-2pm we have the official Retro Roadmap / Roadside Fans meet-up at the Glider Diner on Providence Road in Scranton PA We’ll all get a chance to meet and eat at the Glider diner, a vintage Mountain View (with an addition on the back, so there should be plenty of room for us-!) Get to know folks who are interested in roadside Americana, road trips, diners, stories, photos, and whatnot. We’ll all be paying for our own meals, and as I like to say “Eat Well and Tip Heavy”!

Retro Roadhusband and I are thinking of taking the Lackawanna county coal mine tourafter the meet-up, and will have Michael Hirsch from the Doo Wop Preservation League tagging along with us – join the fun if you’re interested!

I did a reconnoiter of the Scranton  /  NorthEast PennsylvaniA area and there are plenty of cool old places in NEPA worth checking out while you’re up there, including:

Cool architectural salvage mecca Olde Good Things – right next to the Glider diner – is open on Sundays!
Egypt meets Greece in Pennsylvania

Old Forge PA is famous for its NEPA style pizza and – Revello’s open on Sundays! Retro Roadhusband and I are looking forward to checking out this distinctive regional type of pizza. Read about my experiences with NEPA Pizza at the Victory Pig in Wyoming, PA (alas they are closed on Sundays)

Gallia Flower Shop( This sweet shop is right across the street from Revello’s)

The Circle Drive In Movie Theater in Dickson City has its Flea Fair on Sunday mornings starting at 7am!

Those looking for other diners in the area can scope out Chicks in Scranton and The Six East restaurant in Dickson City.

There’s also a Harry Houdini Museum, The Electric City Trolley Museum, The Steamtown National Historic Site, The Scranton Cultural Center and plenty of old neighborhoods in the area,  harboring great vintage storefronts and signage:
