Sellersville’s Historic Inn / Restaurant / Theater Combo!

In this otherwise sleepy area of Bucks County, the building on the corner of Main and Temple in Sellersville has drawn visitors since 1975 (now that's retro!) Today this corner  is still sure to appeal to Retro Roadmappers looking for an entertaining evening or weekend getaway.

The Washington House Restaurant

The Washington House Restaurant is located in what once was a farmhouse, but has been a public gathering and resting spot for over 200 years. The Victorian inspired exterior you see today, with wraparound porch and 4th story tower observatory, were added in the late 1800s. You can choose to dine inside, or in nice weather there's seating on the porch and patio.

Upon entering you’ll be greeted with the charming sight of the post-prohibition wooden bar and antique tile floor.

While the original bar was destroyed during prohibition, the backbar with its many drawers is original to the building. It is said that guests would store their guns in these numbered drawers before going to their room at night-!

The bar is a perfect place for a casual snack or drink, or for a more elegant dining option ask to be seated in one of the cozy dining areas within this historic building. We always love coming here before a show at the adjacent Sellersville Theater, but this is a nice spot to stop by any time.

The Washington House Hotel

There has been lodging at this grand corner location for many years, but in 2016 The Washington House Hotel was completely updated and remodeled. You now have your choice of 11 rooms in this historic location, each one with its own unique layout and character.

The antique charm is intact, but each room also offers amenities that modern travelers have become accustomed to, like complimentary wi-fi, walk in showers, oversized televisions and continental breakfast in the private lounge area.

Mod Betty swoons at the thought of the Tower Suite - who wouldn’t want to stay a 3-story room with exclusive access to the 4th level observatory tower?

The Sellersville Theater

Rounding out a full evening in town, The Sellersville Theater just next door offers a wide variety of live music in all styles, comedy shows, movies and more. Mod Betty has seen some great shows here, and Retro Roadhusband has graced the stage himself more than a few times!

While built in 1894 as a stable for the Washington Inn property, it has served a variety of uses throughout the decades and was at one point the town's movie theater.

You'd never know from looking at the auditorium today what condition it was in 2001, but owners William Quigley and Elayne Brick (who own all of these businesses) brought this place back and then some. (There are "Before" photos posted in the alcove off the lobby)

While the lobby itself is small, there is a bar offering locally made snacks, beer and wine that can be enjoyed in the auditorium during the performance.

If you're lucky enough to get tickets in the front cabaret section, you have your own table to perch your drinks on while being right up close to the action.

As an aside, if you get into town early enough, pop into the 1937 Post Office next door - there's a WPA Mural there!
