All these posts about chili are making me hungry! We’re going to make a batch tonight using the recipe on a can of Bush chili beeas. If it turns out OK, we’ll let you know. One of the best chilis I ever had was in the long since closed cafeteria of a Sears store in a local shopping mall, of all places. I used to go there for lunch on a regular basis.

Definitely let us know how it turns out! I used to love the cafs in old department stores – but does that come as any surprise? 🙂

The chili turned out OK. It needs a little fine tuning in the spice department, but otherwise OK.

Is Chili John’s still open? His website says closed December 13, 2012. Nothing’s happening there.

Hello Carol Anne – They’re still open, I think they haven’t updated their website. I left a note on their Facebook page about that note on their home page – thanks for the tip! https://www.facebook.com/ChiliJohns

The original Chili John’s restaurant is in Green Bay, WI. John Isaac came up with Chili John’s chili and started selling it in his bar in Green Bay, WI in 1900. Chili John’s restaurant in Green Bay, WI was established in 1913 when John renamed his bar Chili John’s. The Chili John’s in Burbank, CA is definately not the original and was not established in 1900.The Chili John’s in Burbank, CA was established in 1946 by John’s son Ernie when he moved out there.
